Scamander
Scamander is a small town at the mouth of the Scamander River between St Helens and St Marys on the north-east coast of Tasmania in Australia. The town is a popular holiday destination because of its wide, sandy beaches and views of the ocean. Recreational activities include surfing, swimming and fishing for bream in the river. Shelly Point Campground
88 Tasman Highway, Beaumaris The Shelly Point Camping Area within the Scamander Conservation Area is just off the Tasman Highway right on the ocean and the view is quite amazing. This is a free camping area with an undesignated area suitable for all but the very large caravans. Fires are permitted with caution as this is a very exposed area. There is a drop toilet however there are no other facilities. Dogs are not permitted here. |

Trout Creek Reserve Scamander Forest Reserve
Campground Trout Rd, Upper Scamander Free camping area at Trout Creek in the Upper Scamander Reserve. Suitable for tent camping, camper trailers and small caravans. The access road is unsealed, narrow, windy, steep in sections and rough. It is NOT SUITABLE FOR BIG RIGS AND LARGE CARAVANS OR MOTORHOMES. There are pit toilets and some scattered picnic tables. Sites are available on the Scamander River or in a grassed area near the toilets. Take all rubbish with you and leave no trace. Scamander Reserve is popular, with good reason, so try to arrive early if you are travelling during holiday periods or on the weekend. |
