Swansea Swansea is 134km from Hobart, 133km from Launceston and 67km from Campbell Town, in the heart of Tasmania's east coast, on the north-west shore of Great Oyster Bay, overlooking Freycinet National Park. Established in the 1820s as Waterloo Point, with some of the coast’s longest and prettiest beaches, Swansea is a true beachside holiday town. Take a walk around town to admire the colonial architecture along the self-guided walk through the town, or visit the East Coast Heritage Museum at the Visitor Information Centre. Swansea is home to colonies of short-tailed shearwaters (muttonbirds) and little penguins. The nearby Freycinet National Park has quolls, wallabies, native microbats, possums and Tasmanian devils. Offshore, there are dolphins, whales and seals. |
